How should I manage my toddler’s TV time?
Did you know that kids who watch a lot of TV (more than 2 hours a day) are more likely to be overweight or obese as they get older?
If TV time has gotten a bit out of control in your home, you are not alone! We understand that managing your kids’ TV time can be a struggle. Even if you can’t cut out TV completely, cutting back on TV will help.

"My daughter and I have a routine that works well for us. She gets to choose 2 stories every night. For the first one, she sits in my lap for cuddle time. For the second one, she lies down in her bed and closes her eyes. Sometimes she’s asleep before I finish!"

"We just discovered audiobooks! My son and I have been listening to children’s books from the library before he goes to bed for the last few weeks. It’s nice to be able to listen together, and it really helps him calm down at the end of the day."
Quick tips: Managing your child’s TV time
- If you do let your child watch TV, make sure you know what the show is about. Some shows can help your child learn important skills, like saying the alphabet and counting. Try to limit TV to no more than 2 hours in a day.
- Try turning off the TV during mealtime, playtime, bath time, and bedtime.
- Watching TV will not help your child fall or stay asleep. Keep the TV out of your child’s bedroom so she can get the best rest possible.
Skip the ads. Watch TV shows on DVDs or TV On Demand. Shows with lots of ads for unhealthy foods make it harder for your child to learn to make healthy food choices.
