Recipe: Smiling Faces Whole Wheat Pita Pizzas Recipe: Smiling Faces Whole Wheat Pita Pizzas
  • ​4 loaves whole wheat pita bread
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 cups assorted chopped vegetables (mushrooms, spinach, onions, peppers, broccoli)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Preheat the oven to 400°F. Place 1 to 2 tablespoons of tomato sauce on each loaf of pita bread and spread evenly. Top the pita bread with vegetables and/or meat of your choice. (Encourage your kids to make a smiling face out of the toppings!) Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of cheese on top of the vegetables (or meat). Place the pita loaves on a baking sheet and bake for 10 to 15 minutes, until the cheese is melted.

Tip: Make dessert pita pizzas! Slice ½ banana over each loaf of pita bread and sprinkle with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Bake at 400°F for 5 to 10 minutes. Remove the pita bread from the oven and drizzle 1 tablespoon of honey over each loaf.​
